Highlander Movie Production
Gregory Widen had no idea the screenplay he wrote as a class assignment while attending screenwriting classes at the University of California, Los Angeles, would one day become a beloved cult classic. According to Bill Panzer, the script he wrote in 1982 titled ‘Shadow Clan’ was created from an inspirational notion that struck him while standing in front of a suit of armor during his summer travels through Scotland. The premise, which became the foundation for Highlander and its franchise after that, follows immortals caught up in battles leading secret lives hidden from the rest of humanity. Widen sold his ‘Shadow Clan’ script for two $10,000 paychecks and surely never dreamed of the magnitude it would reach when released four years after selling it.
